Community Integration Services

Community Integration Services provides aquatic experiences for people of all ages who have special developmental or physical needs including all spectrums of Autism. We help our clients access community pool facilities for recreation, rehabilitation,swimming and general fitness. Through adaptive equipment, personalized instructions, and the healing powers of the water, our clients experience greater independence and enjoyment of life.

Harriet Ott

Harriet E. Ott, CTRS, ATRIC - Aquatic Therapist

Harriet is owner and coordinator of all Community Integration Services Programs. She has extensive training and experience in a variety of therapeutic aquatic treatments and techniques. Her evaluation and assessment of all participants places them according to individual needs and goals,  to remain active, safe, and participate to their maximum potential. Harriet is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), Certified Aquatic Therapist (ATRIC), Certified in Ai Chi, and a WATSU practitioner.


Stacy Smith, CTRS, ATRIC  - Aquatic Therapist

Stacy is also a Certified Recreation Therapist and Certified Aquatic Therapist.  She has been working as an Aquatic Therapist for Community Integration Services since July 2005. She has spent many years  in the water working with children with special needs, persons with disabilities, and leading Multiple Sclerosis and Aquatic therapy exercise classes. Stacy has taken aquatic trainings in WATSU 1, Ai Chi, Arthritis Foundation Certifications, and acquired 3 Water Art Certifications.  Working with children with Autism and sensory integration techniques has become her specialty.

Heather B

Heather Bailey, PTA

Heather is a graduate of WSU with a BS in Psychology (2001) and from Green River College has an associates degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant. She has many years of experience working in the aquatic environment. She started programs for physically challenged adults at the YMCA in Newport Hills, and then move to the Bellevue Pro Sports Club, specializing in aquatic programs which included gait mechanics, Myokinesthetics and is certified as an Orthopedic Movement Specialist. Heather has just left Hawaii, where she again worked in the water. She also learned the McKenzie Technique, which focuses on joint dysfunction. Heather has worked with the children in multiple settings though out her career, including the Braille institute, Children's Hospital, a special education school and while at the Bellevue Sports Pro-Club.


Lou Towner - Aquatic Specialist

Lou started out by volunteering with the MS group and the Body Tune Up Class that meets at Bellevue Aquatic Center. She has discovered a passion for the water while working with the people with special needs. She has a background of many years with elderly and disabled children as a social worker. Lou has completed more then 50 hours of Aquatic Therapy course work on the following: Introduction to Aquatic Therapy, Hip, Knee and Gait rehabilitation, Basic Watsu, Beyond Arthritis, Teaching Children with Autism and Special Needs to Swim, Three Case Studies in Aquatic, and Ai Chi Fall prevention and more! Lou started with Community Integration Services in December 2009.

Julie B

Julie Berquist, AEA

Julie Berquist is a certified Aquatic Fitness Instructor and has been leading aquatic classes at The Fitness Center since 2005. Julie certified with the Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program in 2002 as an Aquatic Program Instructor, and in 2003 with the Aquatic Exercise Association as an Aquatic Fitness Instructor. She has represented group aquatic programming to individuals with Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, and Downs Syndrome through Community Integration Services and the City of Renton Specialized Recreation Fitness Program. She has pursued continuing education certification workshops in Therapeutic Halliwick, Basic AiChi, Basic Watsu, Aquatic Pilates, Programming for Medical Conditions, and deep water exercising.


Scott Newing, Aquatic Specialist

Scott comes to Community Integration Services with 12 years of experience in the aquatic industry. He is certified with his Water Safety Instructor I and has worked with people of all ages and abilities teaching swimming, water safety, and exercise classes.

Scott has a passion for helping people and has a knack for making the challenging skills easy and the rough days fun! He loves seeing clients meet their physical goals whether it be swimming, water safety, or exercise.

Outside of the pool he is an outdoor enthusiast with many activities including skiing, rock climbing, mountain activities, and much more. His naturally calm nature is soothing to all and encourages people to grow to their greatest potential.
