PSU Gorge Invite

This year's Gorge Invite was the first ever Northwest regatta (or at least first in any recent history) with four divisions. A la North/South, A and B divisions were sailed in FJs and C and D divisions were sailed in Lasers. We had a great turn-out with 72 sailors on 14 teams from 6 schools, 9 of which fielded C and D divisions. We hope everyone is looking forward to this format as a tradition of future Gorge Invites. Saturday saw sunny skies and glassy waters. One A Division race was around noon in a light westerly that died to 2-4 knots. Sailors returned to shore and waited until 2 o'clock for breeze, which filled again from the west and built to 10-12 knots through the afternoon. Two rotations of two races were completed for each division. Sunday was cloudy and rainy in morning, but the breeze was on and the first race was started promptly. Two sets of three races each were completed for each division just before the 3 o'clock deadline for a total of 40 races! Many thanks to Malcolm Orrendurff, Amy Poe, the Columbia Gorge Racing Association, and everyone who helped them run races. And on behalf of the entire NWICSA, we wish a fond farewell to all of the graduating seniors who sailed their final college races with us this weekend. We'll miss you and we want to thank you for all you've done to help make this district what it has become!
